Cherub à vendre

The squid is a one-off (even more so than most Cherubs!) built by me and a
friend in 1999, to our own design (it's never appeared on the website
because I haven't managed to find the sections in an electronic format). We
designed the boat soon after the 1997 rules changes, and the boat has a very
fine entry with flattish u-sections forward, minimal rocker and rise, and
upright-ish topsides. The idea was that keeping the bow straight and fine
should prevent most of the nose-diving that pre-97 Cherubs can be prone to;
this has been relatively successful as I can't remember actually pitchpoling
properly (we have fallen in every other way though!). The boat has shown
plenty of speed when we got everything right, but is by its nature (flat
with sharp chines) quite tricky to sail and you have to keep her upright; we
didn't get the rig anything close to right until relatively recently and I
haven't sailed enough to really get the best from the boat. The hull is
mostly glass over divinycell, with ud carbon reinforcements to take the rig
loads, and a carbon transom. It is essentially sound and watertight; when
last weighed the hull was 3-4kg overweight but that was with all the
fittings and ropes in, so it should be pretty much on the 50kg mark. The
mast has an alloy bottom section and carbon 'tip' from below the lower
spreaders; there are twin spreaders and its currently set up with diamonds
and d2s to add stiffness, plus lowers to support the gooseneck. The main is
in reasonable condition; the jib's fine but I think (it's so long now that I
can't remember) that I ripped the kite last time out. I imagine that there
are quite a few 97 rules kites around at the moment so I don't think that
should be too much of a problem. I'm pretty sure it would be possible to
repair the kite too (I've done that successfully before with previous sails,
it isn't difficult).
Foils are western red cedar core, with ud carbon (specs pretty much
following the cherub website layup). The rudder stock is a daggerblade
arrangement.
Currently the boat is in my garage in Sheffield, where it's been for the
last 2+ years.
I haven't got many pictures that I can send - most of them were taken before
digital cameras were commonplace - but I've scanned a couple in that show
the hull shape to some extent. I'll see if I can find some more - I'll send
them on if I do.
