JJ Gilitnan Trophy 2005

Greenhalgh, Dan Johnson and Peter Greenhalgh once again had to make a recovery after a slow start but this time they had the boatspeed required to take the victory.
RMW crossed the finish line 32secs ahead of Casio Seapathfinder (Michael Coxon) with Euan Mc Nicol's Club Marine a further 1min 57secs back in third place.
Today's results have certainly tightened the pointscore, although Rag & Famish's (JohnHarris) fourth placing enables them to retain the lead on 8.0 points.
Computer Associates (Anthony Young) is second overall on 13.0 points, followed by Asko Appliances (Hugh Stodart) on 14.0, RMW Marine 15.0, Maytag (Tony Hannan) on 19.0 and Club Marine 21.0.
The race was sailed in a south wind up to 15knots and the early lead was taken by AAPT, with replacement skipper Trevor Barnabas at the helm.
AAPT and Casio led the fleet on the spinnaker run to the Beashel Buoy while RMW showed outstanding pace to move through the fleet.
AAPT led Casio and Club Marine at Shark Island but RMW was now only 30secs from the lead.
This gap was further reduced to 25secs after the downwind leg.
On the third windward beat, the four skiffs each led at various stages before Club Marine turned ahead for the run to the Beashel Buoy.
RMW was first to set a spinnaker and grabbed the lead over Casio and from that point was never headed - although Casio was only 8secs behind as the pair rounded the final mark.
Panasonic (John Winning Jnr) was involved in an incident prior to the start and the damage to the hull prevented the team from competing. This will be resolved after a protest hearing.
Heat 4 will be sailed tomorrow (Wednesday, 23 February) at 3.00pm.
Spectator ferries follow every race, leaving Double Bay Wharf at 2.45pm.

Euan Mc Nicol's Club Marine became the fourth winner from as many races when the skiff took out Heat 4 of the Ssangyong International Championship on Sydney Harbour today.
Rookie skipper Mc Nicol, Seve Jarvin and Tim Austin were brilliant in the light Easterly wind as they recorded a 1min 46secs victory.
Daniel Phillips' Omega Smeg finished second 8secs ahead of Team Pegasus, skippered by two times Giltinan winner Howie Hamlin of the US.
Mc Nicol was a crewmember with John Winning's successful 2000 Giltinan Champion, AMP Centrepoint, but is having his first season as skipper in the 18s.
The Club Marine team led at every mark throughout the race.
After the first windward leg they held a 30secs lead over Team Pegasus and defending champion Rob Greenhalgh in RMW Marien.
When the fleet reached the same buoy on the second circuit of the course this lead had been extended to 1min 40secs over RMW.
From that point Club Marine was never in danger of defeat, however the race for minor placings was intense.
Following today's race Rag & Famish (John Harris) leads the pointscore with 14.0 points, followed by Asko Appliances (Hugh Stodart) and RMW on 19.0 and Club Marine on 22.0.
Allowing for discards, Rag & Famish has 8.0 points, Club Marine and Asko 9.0, RMW 11.0 and Computer Associates (Anthony Young) on 13.0.

Ca commence à se resserer un peu en tête de la course avec des vainqueurs de manche à chaque fois différent.
Harris qui est en tête est le dernier Australien à avoir gagné le JJ Giltinan.

Skippered by Hugh Stodart with crew of Paul Schulz and Niall Kinch, Asko Appliances led at every rounding mark to take victory by 13secs.
In the end Asko had to withstand a brilliant finish from Club Marine (Euan Mc Nicol) while the consistent Computer Associates ( Anthony Young) was a further 29secs back in third place.
With just two heats remaining in the championship Asko now heads the pointscore on 20.0 points, closely followed by Rag & Famish Hotel (John Harris) on 22.0, Club Marine 24.0 and defending champion Rob Greenhalgh (RMW Marine) on 25.0.
After discarding their worst performance to date Asko still leads on 10.0 points, from Club Marine on 11.0, Rag & Famish 14.0, Computer Associates 16.0 and RMW 17.0.
This has to be one of the closest Giltinan contests ever staged and picking the series winner is still extremely difficult.
Asko's crew totally dominated the light North East conditions and led by 45secs halfway through the race.
The struggle for minor placings was hard fought as Club Marine, CA, AAPT and Ssangyong Yandoo raced together for most of the course.
RMW trailed by 2mins at the first windward mark and 2 1/2 mins at the Beashel Buoy on the second lap.
Australian champion Casio Seapathfinder (Michael Coxon) was even further back. They were 4mins 45secs behind Asko at the halfway mark.
There are still two more heats to be sailed (Saturday and Sunday) and of course the usual spectator ferries will follow all the racing.
On Saturday the ferry will depart Double Bay Wharf at 3.45pm for a 4.00pm start, and on Sunday there will be two ferries leaving Double Bay at 2.45pm for a 3.00pm start.

A ninth placing in today's final heat was enough to give Euan Mc Nicol's Club Marine victory in the 2005 Ssangyong JJ Giltinan International 18ft Skiff Championship on Sydney Harbour.
Mc Nicol with crewmen Seve Jarvin and Tim Austin recorded placings of first, second, third, fourth, fifth and nineth for a final total of 24 points.
They narrowly defeated Asko Appliances (Hugh Stodart) which finished fifth in today's race for a total of 25 points.
RMW Marine (Rob Greenhalgh) was third on 26 points after defeating Rag & Famish Hotel (John Harris) on a countback.
Going into the final race Club Marine held a five points lead over Asko and Rag & Famish but midway through today's race was well back in the pack and looked to have no chance of taking the title.
It was Australia's first victory since John Harris won in 2001.
Howie Hamlin (US) took victory in 2002 and 2003, while Rob Greenhalgh (UK) was successful in 2004.
In Heat 7 Greenhalgh came from behind in RMW Marine to snatch a 12secs win from Australian champion Casio Seapathfinder (Michael Coxon) with AAPT (Trevor Barnabas) another 7secs back in third place.
But it was the battle for overall championship victory which held the spotlight until the very end.
The championship had everything.
Six different winners of the seven heats and an overall decision of victory which came to the last few hundred metres of the final race.
Heat 7 Results:
1st RMW Marine, Rob Greenhalgh (UK)
2nd Casio Seapathfinder, Michael Coxon (Aust)
3rd AAPT, Trevor Barnabas (Aust)
4th Omega Smeg, Daniel Phillips (Aust)
5th Asko Appliances, Hugh Stodart (Aust)
6th Rag & Famish Hotel, John Harris (Aust)
Overall Results:
1st Club Marine, Euan Mc Nicol (Aust) 24pts
2nd Asko Appliances, Hugh Stodart (Aust) 25pts
3rd RMW Marine, Rob Greenhalgh (UK) 26pts
4th Rag & Famish Hotel, John Harris (Aust) 26pts
