Désolé c'est en britton mais là j'ai franchement la flemme de traduire et je suis surtout trop pressé d'aller essayer mes new sails avec my new mast ce soir. :P :P

The Prince of Wales Cup was presented and first raced for in 1927, and
it is
not surprising that there are precedents for most circumstances that
might
affect the running of the race. The situation we have experienced this
week, when
the race had to be postponed for lack of wind on Tuesday and then again
on
Wednesday, occurred as long ago as 1930, proving once again that there
is hardly
ever anything that has not been seen before in this long established
class.

Finally, however, the boats went afloat yesterday (Thursday) to sail
their
annual championship race, after an initial postponement by PRO Jim
Sinclair to
allow the breeze to become established. Unlike a championship based on
a points
series, the POW is always a do or die effort, and it was not surprising
that
the first attempt at starting resulted in a general recall. Even with a
black
flag, the second attempt also brought about a general recall, with four
unfortunate boats having to go home after they were spotted over the
line.

In a way, it was fortunate that these initial attempts at starting were
aborted, because there was then a period of almost complete calm, and
everything
had to wait for the breeze to re-establish itself. Eventually, there
was enough
to organise another start, and this time the fleet got away without
further
disqualifications.

Victor Brellisford and Damian Ash had the best of the first beat, and
rounded
the windward mark with a handy lead, which they extended over the next
lap
and a half, beginning to take on the appearance of likely winners.
However, the
vagaries of the breeze began to take a hand, and the extent of the lead
they
had built up counted against them when another period of calm gave
along,
giving the boats behind the advantage of seeing what was happening and
avoiding the
worst affected areas.

Although the order of the leading group was shuffled to an extent, the
situation did not arise where there was a massive change that might
have resulted in
huge gains and losses. Several teams had periods in the lead, including
Chris
Turner and Peter Bagwell, Andy Partington and Ben Verniere, and Andy
Fitzgerald and Simon Marks, with Brellisford and Ash making determined
efforts regain
the leading position.

Finally, the break that won the day was made by Andy Partington and
Frenchman
Ben Verniere on the sixth and final windward leg, when they established
a
good lead which they held down the reaches to the finish at the leeward
mark.
Fitzgerald and Marks approached the finishing line two-sailing the
final reach,
but Brellisford and Ash set their spinnaker, went for the leeward end
of the
line, and just took second place by a few feet.

It had been a nerve-wracking afternoon in a breeze that varied from
zero to
ten knots, demanding extreme patience from the race officers and
competitors
alike, but it was generally agreed that it had been a fair contest, and
it
certainly provided an exciting race. It was, of course, late in the
evening before
everyone got ashore.

Today (Friday) we return to the points series, with the possibility of
three
races being sailed if the conditionas are suitable.

Peter Danby

Voici un résumé de la fin de la Prince of wale week. Désolé, toujours pas le temps de traduire :P.

By starting at noon on the dot, and avoiding even any slight delay
between
races, three points races were sailed today (Friday) to give a series
of six
with one discard. The breeze for the first race of the day increased
from 8 to 12
knots, and then fell away again, but was never below 6 knots at the
masthead
of the committee boat. It was not the exciting stuff that gives 14
footer
sailors the adrenaline rush they enjoy so much, but it brought the week
to a good
conclusion after the final day had started with only three points races
having
been sailed.

Andy Fitzgerald and Simon Marks, who had been leading with two second
places
and a first, rounded things off nicely with two first places and an
eighth
today, which made them clear winners of the points trophy. Jarrod
Simpson and
Harvey Hillary retained second place overall by turning in results of
1, 13 and 6
today, while Mike Lennon and John McKenna overtook James Fawcett and
Dave
Dobrejivic with 11, 7 and 2 to pip them by just one point.

Charles Tauner and Edward Clay had an exceptionally good day, and their
places of 2, 3 and 7 brought them up from 16th to 6th overall.

Andy Partington, who won the Prince of Wales Cup yesterday with Ben
Verniere,
again distingushed himself, but this time by doing a spectacular
backward
somersault out of the boat at the first leeward mark when he forgot to
hook on to
the trapeze wire. This pair then recovered well to finish fourth in the
race,
and to move up to fifth overall.

A good championship week now draws to a conclusion, and things are over
bar
the shouting that will surely occur at the dinner and prizegiving this
evening.

Points series overall after six races, one discard:

1. Andy Fitzgerald and Simon Marks, Itchenor SC, 7 points
2. Jarrod Simpson and Harvey Hillary, Itchenor SC, 17 points
3. Michael Lennon and John McKenna, Hayling Island SC, 28 points
4. James Fawcett and Dave Dobrejivic, Hayling Island SC, 29 points
5. Andy Partington and Ben Vernieres, Hayling Island SC, 35 points
6. Charles Tauner and Edward Clay, Hayling Island SC, 38 points
7. Charles Duchesne and Mikey Warren, Itchenor SC, 40 points
8. Martin Jones and Andy Rice, Hayling Island SC, 41 points
9. Ian Pinnell and Sam Gardiner, Hayling Island SC, 48 points
10. Geoff Carveth and Adrian Murphy, Hayling Island SC, 54 points
